UDRI seeks a self-motivated individual with a broad technical background and willingness to learn new procedures, instrumentation and measurement techniques. Candidates experienced in CAD modelling software, 3D printing, machining procedures, experimental methods, and data analysis to support basic and applied research in materials characterization and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) are highly encouraged to apply. The work to be performed may be on-site in support of the Materials & Manufacturing Directorate, Materials State Awareness Branch (AFRL/RXNW) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH or on campus at UDRI Shroyer Park Center. The researcher will be supporting senior engineers developing new methods for inspecting aerospace structures and characterization of emerging materials including metal alloys, ceramic, polymer and carbon matrix composites.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree or technical training in mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or related field.
• Minimum of two years of directly related experience.
• Experience with Solidworks and component design and machining principals.
• Experience with using and specifications for 3D printers.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications, specifically data analysis using Excel.
• Experience with hand tools and electronic equipment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Interest and ability to communicate and interact with multidisciplinary scientists.
• Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience with nondestructive inspection methods.
• Experience with metallographic methods and microscopy.
• Experience working with socially and culturally diverse community.
• Experience with computer control and/or automation methods.
