Position Summary:

Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? Our Structural Materials division invites qualified candidates to apply for our NDE Research Engineer opening!

UDRI seeks candidates experienced in experimental methods, modeling and simulation to support basic and applied research in materials characterization and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) to be performed on-site and in support of the Materials & Manufacturing Directorate, Materials State Awareness Branch (AFRL/RXCA) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH. The researcher will be supporting single- and multi-physics model development used to guide and improve experiments. The research goals are to improve assessment of ceramic, polymer and carbon matrix composites by merging or adapting NDE modalities that include ultrasonics, electrical impedance tomography, electromagnetic, and/or thermographic methods.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate studies in applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or related field..
• Minimum of two years of directly related experience.
• Experience with modeling composite material response and/or material signal interactions using finite element method and/or similar numerical approaches.
• Experience with MATLAB or scientific data analysis programming languages such as or Python.
• Experience with laboratory equipment including lock-in amplifiers, oscilloscopes, multimeters and power supplies
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Interest and ability to communicate and interact with multidisciplinary scientists.
• Willingness to publish research results in peer reviewed journals and present research at conferences, informal internal meetings, etc.
• Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• PhD degree in applied mathematics, engineering, computer science, physics, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience developing multimodal physics-based numerical models.
• Experience with test system development including instrumentation integration.
• Experience working with socially and culturally diverse community.
• Experience with inverse problems and optimization methods.
• Application of registration, segmentation, and classification tools on sensor data sets.
• Prior demonstrated experience in writing and publishing peer reviewed journal articles and presentations at conferences.
