Position Summary:

UDRI is seeking an Associate-level Engineer to support aerostructure design and analysis research projects and structural integrity programs. Specific job duties will include the following: developing highly-detailed computer aided design (CAD) models and assemblies of structural systems; creating highly-detailed drawings of those systems; developing large bills-of materials and technical data lists containing multiple part and assembly descriptors; performing structural analysis/finite element analysis (FEA) of aircraft components and test fixtures; performing data reduction and analysis of aircraft component and system responses; supporting testing of aircraft components; supporting planning and implementation of aircraft part and system redesign efforts, and, developing technical documentation including presentations, reports, drawings, and other engineering data.

The position is within UDRI’s Aerostructures Team which offers significant experience working with airframe structures, landing gear, tires, transparency systems, radome structures, and engine components. The Aerostructures Team is part of the Structures Group which has solved complex engineering problems and conducted structures-related research and development for over 40 years. The Aerostructures Team and Structures Group are key contributors to the integrated and dynamic Structural and Materials Engineering Division that provides comprehensive capabilities for systems engineering, design/redesign, analysis, prototyping/fabrication, testing, and qualification in order to transition “real-world” hardware solutions for air and ground vehicles and complex test equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

-- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or Combined Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
-- Proficiency using the standard suite of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
-- Coursework or practical experience working with CAD software, such as SolidWorks, AutoDesk, or NX.
-- Strong verbal and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with other engineers, as well as with current and potential customers.
-- A strong attention-to-detail and ability to work effectively in a timely manner.
-- Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.
-- The candidate must be able to pass a National Agency Check.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

-- Two or more years of experience using SolidWorks, including drawing and or technical data package generation.
-- Experience with Abaqus, Ansys, and/or other large commercial FEA codes.
-- Hands-on experience with mechanical and structural systems.
-- Experience with computer programming for engineering applications using Matlab, Java, Python, C++, VBA, or similar codes.
